Dopo il viaggio onirico attraverso i sintetizzatori del Volume 1, intitolato ”SINTESI”, Massimo Martellotta torna con il secondo volume delle One Man Sessions esplorando le possibilità timbriche dello strumento classico per eccellenza: il pianoforte. Lo strumento è al centro della scena, e il piano preparato alla maniera di John Cage è qui decontestualizzato e liberamente “In/Preparato” e reinventato in maniera del tutto personale, posizionando oggetti di uso comune sulle corde stesse per ottenere dei timbri inediti. 

Partendo dalla sua natura di strumento a percussione, il piano viene colpito, accarezzato, stoppato con dei gommini o lasciato risuonare sulla capsula di un microfono, oppure ancora pizzicato come un’arpa o un cymbalon, mentre firta con la batteria, il vibrafono o il mellotron.

In UNPREPARED PIANO si passa da composizioni più classiche citando Chopin e Satie (il pezzo di apertura “Come un notturno”) a droni introspettivi (“Risonanza”) fno a brani che ibridano i linguaggi, delineando melodie immediate e aperture in equilibrio tra l’assoluta modernità di Nils Frahm, l’immaginario a colori in movimento di Bad Plus (ad esempio in “Sostenuto”) e i minimalismi della Penguin

Café Orchestra (“Nécessaire per fanciulli”). Il tutto ancora una volta tenuto insieme da un flo conduttore evocativo, attuale e sempre riconoscibile. Un disco dove il piano è protagonista quindi, ma il dialogo con gli altri strumenti è continuo, fuido e spesso ci si dimentica che dietro ogni strumento ci sia una sola persona.

After the oneiric journey through the synthesisers of Volume 1, entitled "SYNTHESIS", Massimo Martellotta (founding member of the Calibro 35) returns with the second Volume of One Man Sessions exploring the tonal possibilities of the classical instrument par excellence: the Piano. The instrument is at the center of the scene, and the prepared Piano in the manner of John Cage is here decontextualized and freely “In/Prepared" and reinvented in a very personal way, placing objects of common use on the ropes themselves to obtain unprecedented timbres.

Starting from its nature as a percussion instrument, the piano is hit, caressed, blocked with rubbers or left to resonate on the capsule of a microphone, or else pinched like a harp or a cymbalon, while it fires with the battery, the vibraphone or the mellotron.

In UNPREPARED PIANO we move from more classical compositions, quoting Chopin and Satie (the opening piece "Come Un Notturno") to introspective drones (“Risonanza") to songs that hybridize the languages, delineating immediate melodies and openings in balance between the absolute modernity of Nils Frahm, the moving color imagery of Bad Plus (for example in "Sostenuto") and the minimalism of Penguin

Café Orchestra ("Nécessaire Per Fanciulli ). All this once again held together by an evocative, current and always recognizable flo conductor. An album where the piano is the protagonist then, but the dialogue with the other instruments is continuous, fuido and often we forget that behind every instrument there is only one person.
